Retirement as financial survival…

Sometime between 2009 and 2010, reality appears to have set in. The percentage of Canadians who expected to be retired at 66 fell from 55% in 2009 to 28% in 2010. Among those who said they’ll be working at 66, the percentage who told us it would be because they “want to” dropped from 47% in 2009 to 29% a year later. The number-one reason these respondents gave for working at 66 was “to earn enough money to pay basic living expenses.” In 2008 and 2009, the top answer had been “I enjoy my job or career.”
